If hackers target "Ubuntu's" kernel it would target linux as a whole. Hackers could target specific apps but they are also available to all other flavors of linux so that argument doesn't really hold a lot of water.

I usually go with AVG, but your right there are plenty of free alternatives that dont act like a giant system hog.
Not so much different distro, many have the same 2.6.x branch under the hood. It's still the user hierarchy inherent to these systems that I'd put as the primary reason these systems are as safe as they are. Iterations close security holes but it's been quite a while since the last real remote hole exploited in the wild.
Fast enough sublight travel makes #4 a bit unnecesary... What may be impossible to do in a lifespan at 99% the speed of light is very much more possible at 99.999999% the speed of light.
