Part of what you said is true but even if the number of virus writers with a good knowledge of both Linux and Mac were equal to Windows, you would still see a far smaller number of malware for these two platforms as opposed to Windows. The UNIX under pinnings of Linux and Mac makes virus writing much more difficult. A virus can be created tomorrow for both platforms but will it have success in wide distribution? It's highly doubtful. To be on the safe side though, on my Mac I have VirusBarrier which unlike Norton on a PC is extremely light on system resources and has a very small foot print, yet it runs quietly in the back ground in real time protection mode to block both PC viruses and the hand full of Mac virus that exist.
