Actually if you really look at the history of other distros you'll see that none of them ever had the kind support that ubuntu has and the philosophy of ubuntu (the meaning not the distro). You should read the first chapter of the official book and you'll understand why ubuntu is growing at such a phenomenal pace in comparison to other distros and why it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It will only be a matter of time before it actually does replace M$ as the dominant operating system in the world. I could see it happen within 5 years.
